Drama in Umoja as residents, police thwart attempts to demolish a church
Drama yesterday ensued outside a church in Umoja estate after area residents and police thwarted an attempted demolition of the church.
The land grabbers who showed up with bulldozers had already demolished the wall before area residents came and sent them away.
PCMA church Bishop Moses Kinyanjui says that the land grabbers have for a long time been frustrating them in an attempt to have them vacate the land.
Kinyanjui says that PCMA Church acquired the five acre land legally in 1995 and that they have occupied it since then.
“We have been here since 1995, we bought this land genuinely and we even have the title deed, but yesterday there is a team of land grabbers who all of a sudden showed up with bulldozers who started to demolish the wall around this church,” narrated Kinyanjui.
“We do not know clearly who the enemy is because they showed up with bulldozers and started the demolition. We are lucky that we are next to the police station, so we called the police officers who came with reinforcement and scared them away,” he stated.
Reverend Kim a missionary who bought the land in 1995 appealed for justice and asked the land grabbers to follow the law in acquiring the land.
“I am not a fighter, i am a missionary am here to serve people, am here to help people, if i have any fighting i only call to God, but one thing i know is that as Kenyans we must stand with the law, let these illegal things disappear,” said Kim.
