A motorist who captured on camera assaulting a traffic police officer in Mirema, Nairobi County on Sunday, June 2 has reportedly been arrested.
The arrest comes hours after the incident caught in a viral video sparked outrage on social media.
The suspect reportedly took refuge at his girlfriend’s house in the Jacaranda area,Kayole.
A police report earlier seen Ghetto Radio revealed that the officer was on duty manning traffic when he spotted a motor vehicle making a U-turn on the road and obstructing other road users.
“When he approached the said motor vehicle the driver hit the road kerb and got stuck. In the process, the officer managed to enter the vehicle on the front passenger’s seat and instructed the driver to drive to the police station,” the report read in part.
In the video, the motorist was seen knocking down the police officer with an overhand before punching blows on his face.
As he attempted to attack the officer again, several people dashed to his aid as the motorist was captured fleeing the scene.

The officer was rescued by members of the public and later sought first aid at a medical center in Kasarani. He was then referred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further treatment.
As the manhunt ensued for the officer, one of his accomplices was arrested and is expected to aid the police in investigations.
