EACC detectives raid governor Waiguru’s homes in Nairobi and Kirinyaga

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s Nairobi and Kirinyaga homes have been raided by detectives from the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission office.

A statement from EACC says that Waiguru is being investigated for irregularly paying herself and other county officials Ksh. 23,000,000 for non existent trips.

“The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission is conducting investigations into allegations that the governor and other officials of the county government of Kirinyaga were irregularly paid travel allowances of approximately Ksh. 23,000,000,” read the statement.

EACC says that it is in the process of trying to establish if the documents presented to the counties were genuine.

The embattled governor is under investigation by EACC over misuse of public funds.

The raid comes just two months after she was saved from impeachment by the senate.

A report by the special Senate committee led by Kakamega county senator Cleophas Malala cited lack of evidence provided by Members of the County Assembly of Kirinyaga.

“The Committee having investigated the matter in accordance with its mandate under section 33(4) of the County Government Acts and Standing Order 75(2) of the Senate Standing Orders reports to the Senate that it finds that the two Charges against the Governor have not been substantiated.” reads the report

Waiguru was facing accusations of abuse of office, gross violation of the law and using her office to unconstitutionally confer a benefit to herself when she was irregularly paid travel allowances amounting to Sh10.6 million.
