Edward Gichana Takes Over As Nairobi Assembly Clerk as Sonko’s Impeachment Looms
After long court and political battles Edward Gichana has finally taken over as the substantive Clerk of the county Assembly of Nairobi.
Gichana officially took office today after receiving instruments of power from Pauline Akuku who had occupied the office in an acting capacity.
“In accordance with the orders of court issued in ELRC petition No. 194 of 2019 on 5th of August 2020 and the judgement delivered in the said petition on 16th, I have today on the 25th of November 2020, ceased to act in the position of the clerk having handed over to Mr. Edward Ombwori Gichana who takes over as the substantive Clerk of the County Assembly and the Secretary to the County Assembly Service Board.’ Pauline told Assembly staff in a memo.
Close sources say that the truce between Gichana and Assembly leadership was reached after an intervention from ODM leader Raila Odinga yesterday.
The House leadership was summoned at Capital Hill where the deal was reached.
His first task will be signing the impeachment motion against his former boss Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
