Eighty-three-year-old Henry Maina floored a strong field of 235 players to emerge top of the Mashujaa Day edition of the Karen Country Club nite that was sponsored by communication, events, and public affairs consultants, IMG Kenya Ltd.

The handicap 14.1 golfer carded a round of 67 points, beating fellow club-mate David Nduati on count-back, to clinch the competition’s Division A category winners’ prize.

In the Division A Nines challenge, John Mutua and Anthony Gacheru were the stars in the first and second nine after scoring 32 and 31 points respectively.

In Division B, junior Munene Mutakaa defied all odds to emerge the champion after carding a round of 64 points, three more than his closest challenger Caleb Ndege who scored 67 nett points.

In the division’s Nines competition, Ken Mwangi claimed the First Nine winner’s prize after scoring 32 points, while Lucy Gakinya’s 31 points were enough to earn her the top prize in the Second Nine.

Meanwhile, David Mambo claimed the Gross Winner’s top prize on count-back, having carded a round of 76 points.

At the same time, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Company Secretary Allan Njoroge was the Guest Winner after scoring 67 points on the day.

Speaking at the prize giving ceremony, IMG Kenya Founder and Director Charles Gacheru said that the event was a welcome opportunity for the company to engage with its clients and stakeholders.

“We are very delighted to have sponsored this event on such a special day. IMG Kenya has been involved in the sport of golf for a long time now as we assist our various clients in organizing successful tournaments including the annual Magical Kenya Open.

We pride ourselves in being among the best in this field and this is thanks to the trust bestowed upon us by our clients,” he said.

“Our sponsorship for this tournament was therefore a way for us to show gratitude and appreciation to our clients who have contributed to our success.

It is also a platform that has allowed us to interact with our various existing and potential clients as we showcase our expertise.

We thank Karen Country Club for hosting us and offering us this invaluable opportunity and commit to strengthen our relationship in future,” he added.
