An elderly couple was killed on Tuesday evening after a suspected Alshabaab bomber detonated an improvised Explosive Device in Awach sub location, Katito, Kisumu County.
The suspected Identified as John Odhiambo died on the spot alongside the couple leaving their daughter in a critical condition.
According to a police report, John Odhiambo alias Pope is reported to have visited the homestead of one Petro Onyango and his wife Mary Atieno whom he found seated with their daughter Nancy Aoko and started questioning them over things they were not aware of.
“Suddenly, an Improvised Explosive Device that he was carrying went off Killing the suspect on the spot and the explosive also killed Mary Atieno n the spot,” reads the police report.
Onyango died upon arrival at the Nyakach Subcounty Hospital.
“Mzee Petro Onyango was rushed too Nyakach Subcounty hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival while the daughter is admitted at Katito while her condition is serious,” reads the police report.
Report further states that the locals identified the body of the suspect John Odhiambo to be in connection with an explosion that occurred at Katito Last year.
“On December 17th 2020, the deceased detonated an IED device at Katito market trying to kill her girlfriend in a house but she escaped unhurt,” reads the report.
After Katito incident, the suspect disappeared to unknown location just to resurface to claims the lives of the couple.
