Elderly man Killed by officers enforcing Curfew in Mathare
An elderly man has died after he was allegedly clobbered by police officers enforcing curfew in Mathare 4A, Utalii ward, Nairobi.
According to eye witnesses, the man was being chased by officers at around 7:30 PM for flaunting curfew rules.
The officers allegedly hit him on the neck with a club and he passed out immediately.
“The officers chased him down the road at night when they got to him they hit him on the neck with a club and he passed out immediately.” Said one of the witnesses
The residents say the man’s body stayed outside the whole night.
When Ghetto Radio news arrived at the scene on Monday morning, the unidentified man’s body was still lying on the ground partly covered with a piece of cloth.
The man’s wife, who arrived at the scene to view the body, fainted at the scene.
The body was moved by a group of youth after residents barred police officers from taking the body.
The youth argue that the officers who first arrived on the scene claimed that the man had succumbed to the novel COVID-19
Youth in the area have called out police officers in the area for using lethal force to enforce the curfew.
