Legendary marathoner Eliud Kipchoge is set to receive an honorary degree from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) during this year’s graduation slated for December 1st, 2023.
According to the institution of higher learning, Kipchoge who is widely regarded as the world’s greatest marathoner, has met the requirements of the Honorary Degrees Committee, University Senate, and council for the award of the degree.
He will be granted with the prestigious honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. This honor is in recognition of Kipchoge’s outstanding and commendable humanitarian and philanthropic contributions to humanity.
An honorary degree is an academic distinction conferred by a university or college as an honor, usually in recognition of a person’s significant contributions to a specific field, society, or humanity.
Unlike earned degrees, honorary degrees are not obtained through academic achievements but are granted as a mark of esteem or appreciation.
Kipchoge will be among other 3000 graduates set to be awarded with certificates, diplomas, degrees masters and PhDs in various fields.
