Kenya National Union Of Teachers KNUT is now calling on the Ministry of Education to lay down Covid 19 guidelines and reopen schools by January without further delays.
According to deputy Secretary General KNUT Hezborn Otieno the ministry should comply with World Health Organization advisory on schools reopening so that learning can resume.
“It is clear that this disease is with us and we should stick to what WHO is saying… The ministry should continue with preparations for schools to reopen by January,” he said.
He further applauded the move by the government to move to employ more teachers saying it will help bridge the gap brought by 100% transition that saw students overwhelm teachers.
‘‘We must congratulate Teacher Service Commission for this because this is what we have been agitating for …when we have more teachers then it will be also easy to manage pupils and students in classes now that Covid -19 guidelines will only allow smaller numbers of pupils in a class,’’he added.
TSC will also promote 1000 teachers from primary schools to secondary schools in the new recruitment exercise.
