They staged a  comeback to defeat Slovakia 2-1 in extra time on Sunday, therefore securing a spot in the quarterfinals.

Spain, meanwhile, defeated Georgia 4-1 to set up a thrilling quarterfinal matchup with Germany, the host nation.

Ivan Schranz’s goal for Slovakia in the 25th minute put England in danger of a loss. Phil Foden’s equalizer was ruled offside,but Jude Bellingham leveled the score deep into injury time with a magnificent overhead kick, saving the day. The final-minute goal completely destroyed Slovakia’s defense.

Entering into extra time, England’s advantage grew.

Harry Kane scored just one minute into the half thanks to a headed assist from Ivan Toney, who deflected an attempt by Eberechi Eze. England advanced to the quarterfinals, where they will play Switzerland.

Kane praised his team’s determination after the game, saying, “That’s the desire and the attitude from the boys.” For a moment, it seemed difficult, but you persisted.” Although there is room for development, head coach Gareth Southgate praised the team’s determination and energy

Despite the defeat, Slovakia’s coach, Francesco Calzona, was pleased with his team’s effort. “My group performed really well there. They were excellent, gave away very little, and nearly succeeded,” he remarked.

Spain had an early scare against Georgia after an own goal by Robin Le Normand in the eighteenth minute.  This was the first time Spain had lost a tournament match. This defeat does not diminish Spain’s quality.

Spain equalized six minutes before halftime from a goal by Rodri Hernandez, and early in the second half, Fabian Ruiz headed home a cross from Lamine Yamal to give Spain the lead. Spain’s third goal came via a stunning solo effort by Nico Williams, who scored from halfway. Dani Olmo, a substitute, scored a goal late to give the team the victory.

Georgia is playing in their first major event after they defeated Portugal in the knockout round. Coach Willy Sagnol was proud of his team’s accomplishments and optimistic about their future.

More exciting encounters await in the quarterfinals.France will play Belgium, and Portugal will play Slovenia on Tuesday.
