Ex-Machachari actor Govi also know as Malik Lemuel is over the moon after a film he featured on got nominated for Best Short Film at this year’s Zanzibar International Film Festival.
The young talent took to his social media pages to reminisce about his role as a fisherman’s son in the film which he got casted in last year.
“Last year, I was casted to play the character of Kazungu, a fisherman’s son who left his village in search of a better life with his mother. His father had neglected his family and was always busy in the sea. Let us see what happens when Kazungu returns back to the village after his mother passes on.”
He added, “This year, the short film called Mawimbi was nominated for best short film at the Zanzibar International Film Festival.

Film Overview
Mawimbi is a heartfelt short film directed by Mark Wambui, that takes the audience on a journey of what it means to fully understand the things that matter in life.
Malik who plays as Kazungu in the film gets a chance to reunite with his father for the first time in 8 years when he returns home for his mother’s funeral.
When his father informs him that he will set out to catch a rare fish that was sighted by the local fishermen, Kazungu is indifferent, until he comes across an old photo of him and his father, 12 years earlier, a big catch at their feet. They look happy.
He joins his father the next day and while at sea, the tension between them gives way to encounters that cause them to confront the reasons behind their strained relationship.
Eventually, they encounter the rare fish they set out to hunt, but now with a greater awareness about what it represents for them and their relationship.

The Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF), also known as Festival of the Dhow Countries, is an annual film festival held in Zanzibar, Tanzania and one of the largest cultural events in East Africa.
ZIFF is a non-governmental organization established in 1997 to develop and promote film and other cultural industries as catalyst for the regional social and economic growth.
This year’s event will be coming to a close on 2nd July having started on 24th June.
