Mathare residents who were affected by the recent floods and demolition continue grappling with the unfortunate turn of events.

Most families are yet to get back on their feet with some relying on the community Kitchen ran by Coalition for Grassroots Human Rights defenders and other partners.

The community Kitchen has been providing meals for residents who are currently homeless.

Speaking to Ghetto Radio News Omondi Olang’o one of the residents affected by the recent demolitions says life has been unbearable.

300 Families Receive Food Donations

On Thursday 20th June 2024 close to three hundred families shared a meal together and were provided foodstuff to last them for at least two weeks

The food distribution was carried out by members of the Coalition for Grassroots Human Rights Defenders together with their partners

The food distribution was made possible by the support of Change Length Changing Lenses changing Lives (CLCL)   a non-governmental organization

Speaking to Ghetto Radio News Rachael Mwikali says families continue grappling with harsh living conditions since the demolitions occurred

‘’Tumekua na food distribution for the families affected by floods and the demolitions in Mathare We were able to feed close to three hundred families affected ‘’ Said Mwikali

Additionally Mwikali says , they have been running a community Kitchen for the last couple of months

 ‘’Tumekua tukirun a community kitchen na tunaprovide chakula kwa families za mathare na pia  Watoto wa shule pia wanapitia hapa kwa jikoni yetu in the morning kupata chai’’ added Rachael

She emphasized the need for families affected to receive more mental health services

‘’Issue pia ya mental health imekuwa ni noma na pia kuna watu walikuwa na issues za Urinary Track Infections due to poor sanitations’’

Mwikali has called on government agencies to step up in helping all the families that have been left homeless

Changing Lenses, Changing Lives (CLCL) was formed in 2015 to ensure that children in developing countries have their basic welfare and education needs met through funding projects and individual sponsorships.
