Family demands justice after kin is killed by mob in Njiru
A family in Ruai, Njiru sub-county is appealing for justice after their brother who was allegedly killed by a mob in a mistaken identity.
Edward Wambugu says that their mentally ill brother known as John was killed by the mob about a week ago after he was mistaken for a thief.
“When my brother failed, to come home, I looked for a bodaboda guy who took me to where he was seen last. Upon making enquiries, a small boy came and told us that there is a man who was beaten by neighbours over crime in the area,” narrates Wambugu.
Wambugu says that further investigations revealed that John knocked on a wrong door at around 10 pm only for the owners of the house to raise an alarm and called him a thief.

“My brother’s problems when he knocked on a wrong door on that fateful night he then realized that he was on the wrong door and started to walk away only for the owner of the house to raise an alarm in a mistaken identity,” said Wambugu.
Wambugu says that John suffered a mental illness after he was involved in a road accident a few months ago.
He says that he was admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital for three weeks and was later released albeit with a condition called confusional hemorrhage.
“This is not the first time that John confused houses. There is a time he left my sister’s house and got lost because he had confused the houses. This was after he was discharged from the hospital,” says Wambugu.
Violet Mapesa who was with John until 10 pm expressed shock saying that John was only drunk and was not a thief.
