Animated series Family Guy is being slammed for an old episode that references to the late American rapper Nipsey Hussle.

A twitter user brought attention to a short clip from Family Guy episode “Young Parent Trap” which was originally aired in April 2021. In one scene, Chris Griffin tells his father, Peter that he will be attending a local music festival named ‘Quachella.’

“They’re gonna have holograms of Tupac and also Nipsey Hussle, who I’d never heard of and then was told to care immensely about,” says Chris.

The post has since gone viral, with fans of the late rapper putting Family Guy under fire over its dark humour towards Nipsey’s death. Chris’ reference to Tupac is also a hint towards Dr. Dre’s headlining set during the 2012 Coachella where a Tupac hologram performed with Dre and Snoop Dogg.

Some have however stated that the utterances were meant to show how the late rapper was shown love only after his death instead of people supporting his work when he was still alive.

“I get why this rubbed folks the wrong way but I think the joke is kinda accurate and funny. I was a little surprised at the amount of love shown to Nipsey when he died vs when he was alive.” Wrote a user on Twitter.

Nipsey was regarded as an underground legend with mix tapes including Crenshaw, Slauson Boy 2 and Mailbox Money.

On March 31, 2019, Hussle was fatally shot outside his store in South Central Los Angeles. Eric Holder, a 29-year-old man who confronted Hussle earlier that day, was arrested and charged with murder two days later. Holder was found guilty of first-degree murder on July 6, 2022.
