President William Ruto has urged Kenyan men to take a stand against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
Speaking on Thursday at the launch of the council of governor’s women caucus, Ruto insisted on the crucial role men play in ending the harmful practice.
Women suffer during Sex, Men Enjoy
He said FGM only makes men enjoy during sex while on the other hand women get a raw deal.
“Men should be champions against FGM because you know what it is. It destroys everything that would be good in a woman. We are the ones who enjoy,”The President said.

Ruto also emphasized the need for collective action to eliminate the vice.
“I want to tell men to come forward and protect our women from FGM even if it is for selfish reasons, FGM destroys women. Makes them less confident, less effective and creates many challenges around it,”
He called upon women from counties with high rates of FGM to actively participate in eradicating this harmful practice from their communities.

International Women’s Day 2024
And as the World prepares to commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8th, 2024, organizations advocating for reproductive health rights have called on the national together with the county governments to tackle FGM.
Angela Nguku, the Executive Director of White Ribbon Alliance Kenya, reiterated the urgent need for both national and county governments to take decisive action against FGM.
Nguku highlighted the severe health consequences of FGM, including excessive bleeding, urinary problems, cysts, infections, childbirth complications, and an increased risk of newborn deaths.
