FIRE RAZES DOWN HOUSES IN LAINI SABA, LEAVES FAMILIES HOMELESS

126

A huge Fire broke out this morning in Laini Saba Kibra affecting hundreds of families.

The fire which has affected more than 300 houses continues to rage leaving over 200 families homeless.

Nikiwa kwa nyumba  yangu nimeona moshi ikitokea almost two hours ago. Kwanza tunavyoongea hiyo moto inaendelea kusambaa…there are many houses that are being razed down as we speak,” Anthony  Macharia a resident of Laini Saba said.

The 11 am fire has disrupted everyday life for many in the area, as families have been forced to evacuate their homes and businesses.

Angry residents who spoke to Ghetto Radio News have accused the County Government of Nairobi for slow emergency response alleging that the county fire engines arrived late without water.

The problem we have is that the fire brigade is not stationed within the slum areas. It is mostly stationed in Nairobi CBD. There should be a fire brigade stationed at the DO’s office here in Kibra. Wazima moto wamekuja hapa bila maji…hawajaweza kuzima hii moto ambayo inasambaa,” He added.

The exact cause of fire is not immediately known.
