Football Kenya Federation Aberdares Branch has on Saturday December 1, 2018, entered a Memorandum of Understanding with Irungu Nyakera Foundation to fully sponsor the Muranga County League.
The partnership, a first of its kind by an FKF Branch, will see the Non-Governmental Organization not only exclusively sponsor the 16-team league, but also fund clubs within Muranga County that gain qualification to the Aberdares Branch Regional League.
The foundation further committed to carrying out other football development programs, among them coaches and referees training, in conjunction with the Branch.
“Our foundation is committed to empowering youth through sports,” said patron Irungu Nyakera.
“This is what motivated our partnership with FKF Aberdares Branch which we believe will positively impact the lives of hundreds of youth who otherwise did not have an opportunity to showcase their talent,” he added.
FKF Aberdares Branch Chairman Davies Chege, meanwhile, welcomed the partnership, noting that it will go a long way in easing the financial burden on the clubs.
“I want to thank Irungu Nyakera Foundation for coming on board. This partnership will help our clubs fully honor their matches, which will in turn improve the quality of football at the grass roots,” he said.
Among clubs selected for the inaugural sponsorship include Mugumo FC, Ndakaini FC, Kigumo Sportiff, Muranga Youth and Kiria-Ini FC.
Kabati Youth, Gatunyu Sharks, Gatanga FC and Homeboys, meanwhile, will earn full sponsorship to take part in the Aberdares Branch Regional League.
