Lewa Wildlife Conservancy Chief Operations Officer, Turqa Jimo today flagged off the 2nd edition of the ForRangers ultra-marathon at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Meru County.

Over 70 runners from across the world are taking part in the 220 Km race that will see the runners cross five wildlife conservancies over 5 days.

The race, which is split into five stages, will traverse through Lewa, Borana, Ol Jogi, Lolldaiga and Ol Pejeta conservancies taking the runners on a scenic journey through the verdant grasslands and dense forest that host East Africa’s iconic wildlife species.

The competitors will carry their own food, medical supplies, and equipment throughout the race which will conclude at the Ol-Pejeta Wildlife Conservancy on World Rhino Day (Sunday, 22nd September).

This unique race is run in support of the brave rangers who stand guard over Africa’s remaining giants and endangered wildlife species.

Funds raised through the annual event go directly to rhino conservation and ranger welfare initiatives. More than Ksh. 10 Million was raised during the inaugural event which was held in August 2018.
