Former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has died aged 71.

Magoha reportedly died at the Nairobi Hospital after a cardiac arrest after he reportedly collapsed at home.

“It is with great regret that we announce the sudden and untimely demise of Prof. George Magoha EBS, OGW this evening at The Nairobi Hospital.

“Professor Magoha collapsed at home and was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital A&E. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful,” reads a Nairobi Hospital Office Memo.

Magoha’s death comes just a few days after he lost his brother a few days ago. His brother’s death was scheduled for this Saturday.

Magoha went to Starehe Boys Centre after sitting for his CPE exams at the Dr. Livingstone Primary School in Nairobi.

He served as the University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor before being appointed as the chairman of the Kenya Ntional Examination Council.

His stellar performance at KNEC saw former President Uhuru Kenyatta appoint him the Cabinet Secretary for Education. He served in the position until the end of Uhuru’s term in 2022.

He leaves behind one wife Dr. Magoha and son Dr. Michael Magoha.

President William Ruto has eulogised Magoha as a leader who stood tall in academy.
