Former Kenya National Trading Corporation Managing Director Pamela Nduku Mutua has been charged for failing to comply with laws relating procurement law.

According to the prosecution, Mutua in her position as accounting officer, willfully failed to comply with laws relating to procurement relating to disposal of public assets by failing to report to Public Procurement Regulatory Authority after issuance of notification of award to Purma Holdings Limited.

In another count,Pamela was charged with failing to obtain requisite approval before before commencement of procurement of bulk commodities.

Her co- accused Amos Juma Sikuku a Suppy Chain and Logistics Manager at the KNTC, was also charged with abuse office contrary to Section 101 and 102( a) of the penal code CAP 63.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the alleged offence.

The alleged offence was committed between in the month if November and December 2022.

The prosecution, however, did not oppose the application for bond by the defence team.

” You honour  were not  opposed  to be bail application  by the defence  team, however  we request  the court  to give stringent  measures.” The prosecution team submitted.

The defence lawyers Mr Bundotich requested the presiding magistrate Hon. Thomas Nzioki to admit the accused person to a lenient bond terms.

He submitted that the accused persons were summoned by the investigators from the EACC and complied.

He added that the accused persons were currently unemployed, citing the case of the second accused person who was interdicted two months into the job.

The magistrate directed Pamela to be released on a bond term of ksh 5 million or an alternative of Ksh 1.5 million cash bail.

Sikuku was also directed to deposit a ksh 500000 cash bail to secure his release.

They were also directed to deposit their passports with prosecution.

The case is to be mentioned on 12th August for pre-trial directions
