The EDP Lisbon Half Marathon, renowned as the fastest half marathon in the world, is set to take place on Sunday, March 17th, with an impressive elite field headlined by former marathon world record holder, Brigid Kosgei.

Kosgei, aged 30, from Kenya, will be competing in Lisbon as part of her preparation for the upcoming London Marathon in April.

Expressing her gratitude to the race organizers, Kosgei stated her excitement to test her speed on the fast course in Portuguese soil.

With a personal best of 1:04:49 in the half marathon, she aims to push herself to a new level and potentially break her own record if conditions permit.

Joining Kosgei is American Leonard Korir, who finished third in the recent US Olympic Marathon Trials.

Korir, aged 37, is eyeing a fast time in Lisbon, hoping to challenge the American record of 59:43 and assess his readiness for future marathons.

The race is not short of strong contenders, all aiming for the €150,000 bonus for breaking world records. The current records to beat are 57:31 for men, set by Jacob Kiplimo in 2021, and 1:02:54 for women, set by Letesenbet Gidey in Valencia.

The event schedule for March 17th includes the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon at 10:05 AM followed by the Vodafone 10K at 10:45 AM. Fans can catch the action through the event broadcast.
