Kisumu County government yesterday demolished a residential building belonging to former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo.

The operation led by City Manager Abala Wanga saw the building in Migosi brought down by bulldozers.

Wanga had issued a public notice dated 14th April which stated that the building will be brought down since it was constructed on the drainage and sewer network in Migosi estate.

According to the notice the poor drainage system in Migosi estate has been occasioned by illegal structures and buildings such as the ones brought down.

“Due to the unpredictable weather pattern and long rains, the city of Kisumu has experienced major challenges with flooding of the streets and estates. One of the most affected estate is Migosi where drainage and sewer network has completely collapsed owing illegal encroachment on the drainage and sewer system which has in turn interfered with sewer and water flow,” read the Public Notice.

The Notice further gave warning to 29 other owners of the structures to vacate and pave way for drainage and Sewer line construction.
