Former Sports CS Wario Sentenced To 6 Years In jail
Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario has been sentenced to six years in prison or a fine of Ksh. 3.6 Million after the court found him guilty of abuse of office.
Magistrate Elizabeth Juma says that the former CS and his co- accused Stephen Soi used their positions to contradict the law.
Juma also sentenced Soi to a jail term of 10 years of pay a fine of Ksh. 103 Million after he was found guilty of the five counts of corruption.
Juma in her sentencing stated that there was a wastage of resources and the budget for the Olympics games had to be tailored, adding that not everyone involved in the planning should have travelled.
She also noted that that Wario and Soi are first-time offenders.
During the hearing, the court was told how some 184 people travelled to the Rio Olympics and the amount paid as allowances was about Ksh. 150 Million.
The eight person Kenyan Media Team were paid Ksh. 1 Million each.
