Four people have lost their lives following yesterday night Toi fire tragedy that also burnt down millions of goods and properties.

“I was called by a colleague at around 4.40 am telling me that our stalls were on fire I rushed and found my stall already burnt down into ashes and I couldn’t say more you can imagine losing close to one million shillings stock it is not a joke.This is not the first incident I’ m also aware it is not the last one…the perennial fire in this market has cost us huge losses and something permanent need to be done.” Jackson a trader told Ghetto Radio News.
According to Toi Market chairman Kenneth Jumba they suspect someone could be behind it and that it was not an accident.
“You can imagine these losses and the government has never issued any report on previous fires.So we are not surprised that we have another fire months after another tragedy last year.” Jumba said.
Meanwhile the traders have called on the government to move with speed and end Toi Market fire.
“Wanataka tukufe ndio wajue huu moto umetuchosha let them Come out and help us in dealing with these.Tumechoka sisi na hizo serikali.”
Fire History at Toi
In November 2021, fire razed down a section of stalls at the market, leaving traders counting heavy losses.Same was witnessed in 2019.
In 2018, the market experienced three fire cases, which led by then-President Uhuru Kenyatta to call for investigations into the incident and for culprits to be brought to book.
