Four suspected thugs were on Wednesday gunned down in Komarock area, along Kangundo road, Nairobi.
Reports indicate that the incident happened at the Total petrol station after the suspected robbers drove through before opening fire on the police.
Confirming the incident, Buruburu OCPD Adamson Bungei said officers pursued the assailants who opened fire on the sleuths.
“Our officers pursued the suspects and ordered the assailants to surrender but, instead, they opened fire on police who responded by gunning them down. We have started investigations into the incident,” he said.
In the ensuing shoot-out, four of them were gunned down and 2 pistols and 14 rounds of ammunition recovered.
A police officer was also injured during the shoot out and is receiving treatment at the Mama Lucy Hospital.
In a statement issued by the directorate of criminal investigations (DCI) the suspects were being trailed by DCI sleuths under the SSU detectives tasked with the “No Guns for Gangs” following a tip off.
“TWO Pistols; a Tokalev & Mini Ceska & Thirteen rounds of ammunition were today morning recovered by a team of @DCI_Kenya SSU detectives tasked with the “No Guns for Gangs” endeavour. Acting on intelligence, the team which has been pursuing an armed criminal gang operating in Nairobi and its environs intercepted a Toyota Sienta Reg. No KCH 366F along Kangundo Road occupied by four members of the gang. Defying orders to surrender the suspects opened fire hitting one detective (a section commander) and another bullet hitting a civilian’s vehicle..an action that prompted the officers to respond-fatally injuring the four suspects.
