France is almost assured a spot in the last 16 of Euro 2024, but they aim to have Kylian Mbappe back and rejuvenate their scoring when they face Poland in their final group game on Tuesday.

Initially seen as a strong contender in the tournament, France has earned four points from two Group D matches.

However, they have managed to score only one goal, which came from an own goal by Austrian defender Maximilian Wober.

Mbappe missed the Netherlands match due to a broken nose sustained against Austria, but he has resumed training with a protective mask at the French base in Paderborn.

His teammates are hopeful he will return for the match against Poland.

Mbappe’s return is crucial as he remains the most potent attacking option for coach Didier Deschamps.

Marcus Thuram led the attack against the Netherlands, but he has only scored twice in 22 appearances. Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele have also struggled with their goal-scoring form, and Kingsley Coman is regaining fitness after an injury.

France’s strong defensive performance, led by Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba with Mike Maignan in goal, alongside N’Golo Kante’s return, has been crucial.

Tchouameni emphasized the importance of their solid defense for title aspirations, stating, “Scoring will make things easier, but we are confident because we are creating chances.”

To secure their spot in the last 16, France needs just a draw against Poland, who have already been eliminated.

Even a loss might not stop France from advancing, provided Austria doesn’t defeat the Netherlands. France aims to finish first in their group, which could influence their potential opponents in the knockout stages.

Poland’s veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, recovering from an injury, may start after coming on as a substitute against Austria.
