In Summary

  • Gachagua says that Kenya is a democracy and the media should be allowed to do its job
  • Gachagua however says that they will not calling out the media when ‘they have gone overboard’

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has differed with Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria’s instructions to government agencies that they stop advertising with the Nation Media Group.

Gachagua says that Kenya is a democracy and the media should be allowed to do its job.

“I don’t agree with what he has suggested that we stop advertising with you, we shouldn’t because we are a democracy and we should be able to allow you to continue doing your job.” Said Gachagua.

Gachagua however says that they will not calling out the media when ‘they have gone overboard’.

“I want to assure you the nation news paper, whereas I agree with Moses Kuria that you have gone rogue and you are part of the Azimio Brigade of trying to bring down the government… ours is to call you out, that is the strategy” he stated.

Moses Kuria has come under fire over his continued attacks on the media, particularly the Nation Media Group.

The expose

This follows an expose on duty free edible oils importation scandal done by NTV, an outlet of the Nation Media Group.

The expose implicated Kuria as the Cabinet Secretary of Trade for importing duty free edible oils which ended up to be more expensive that the local ones.

Kuria’s outrage over the expose saw him rant in public events and calling the Nation Media Group unprintable names.

He further threatened to fire any person in the government who will advertise with the Nation Media Group.
