Ghetto Radio in partnership with Green Light Planet on Thursday awarded mothers living in slum areas with solar panels.
The solar panels pack, Sunking home 60 Green Light Planet provided the mothers with three bulbs, a phone charging system and the main solar panel.
The project dubbed Asante mama saw mothers who had previously been visited by the Ghetto Radio team during mother’s day celebration get free solar panels installed in their homes for free.
Four mothers, Mary Mukami, Margaret Njeri, Grace Shikuku and Mary Wangare were esctatic after they had their solar panels and lamps installed.
Kayole’s Mary Wangare said she was so happy she could now charge her phone at home and use electricity.
Wangare was previously using a makeshift lamp made of medicine bottle and a wick to light her house.
Another mother, Margaret Njeri who was previously using battery wiring to light her home said she can now do her job in the house with ease because the light is sufficient and she does not have to pay for it.
Asante mama’s second phase brought light to homes where even children struggled to study at night due to poor lighting or kerosene lamps running dry.
