Officials from the Ministry of Health on Saturday embarked on a fumigation exercise targeting public markets in Nairobi.
The exercise aimed at combating spread of Coronavirus was carried out in some of Nairobi’s popular markets including Gikomba, Muthurwa and Burma.
Ministry of Education officials also conducted training sessions sensitising traders on handwashing.
The move was welcomed by traders who maintained that they would also like to be assured of safety amid the global crisis.
A section of traders however called on the ministry to hasten the exercise so that they can move on with their businesses.
“This is a good move by the Ministry but what we are against is being told to close our business and stay home,” said Karanja a mutumba trader
Kenya has so far confirmed seven cases of the virus with a dozen others being investigated at an isolation facility in Nairobi’s Mbagathi Hospital.
