Githurai Parents Protest After Their Children Were Denied Entry In Public Schools

A group of parents from Nairobi’s Githurai area yesterday held demonstrations after their children were denied entry in the area public schools.

The parents claim that their attempts to have school principals admit their children into Githurai Primary School and other public schools in Roysambu were futile.

Loise Waithera says that she transferred he children from a private school they were in due to the adverse effects of Covid-19.

She says that unfortunately they have been told that the schools are already full.

“Majority of our children were in private schools but we had to transfer them because of the effects of Covid-19. We have walked in all public schools in both Githurai and Roysambu to no success,” she said.

“Where do they want us to take our children? Where are the area leaders? We are stuck with our children at home,” she said.

The coronavirus pandemic saw several private schools closed after the proprietors were unable to keep them up due to lack of funds.

Some were even turned into rental houses and some into hospitals.
