  • Githurai’s Thailand Boxing Club Postpone Kenya Nairobi Boxing League.
  • Jericho Boxer Raphael Shighali who was gunned down during this Month’s anti Government protests.

The third leg of Nairobi Boxing League has been moved to the 3rd of August from the initial date of 27th.

According to the Host Githurai Thailand Boxing Club Head Coach John Ochieng the rescheduling of the games was done because the boxing fraternity will be laying to rest Jericho Boxer Raphael Shighali who was gunned down during this Month’s anti Government protests.

Shigali, 35, the reigning Nairobi Bantamweight Champion was allegedly shot dead near Mogas petrol station along Jogoo Road, Nairobi.

Ochieng said that the games have been moved from the Githurai Round About along Thika Highway to Club Truth in Roysambu saying that the place is not conducive in hosting the games.

“Under the tunnel has been our venue for the longest but the place has no crucial amenities such as toilets and changing room and as we will be hosting the whole of Nairobi so we felt that we should look for a better facility,” said Ochieng.

Ochieng has called on well-wishers to come and support the Club saying that they are struggling to manage the team.

“We are doing this because of the love of the game and in the process we are trying to change the state of our hood, there is a lot of crime and drug abuse so by engaging the boys in boxing we are giving back to the society,” he said.

He thanked the owner of Classic Gym Peter Brian Mutiga saying that he has stood by club the whenever they called on his support.

“Mwnagangi has been a true friend of Githurai Boxing fraternity, he has always been supportive to us, he has donated his gym to host the games and we are really thankful for that,” he concluded.

He has called on the County Government and well wishers to support the boxers saying that despite the meager resources they have managed to produce some of the best boxers in the country.
