President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed all striking nurses to resume duties by Friday 15th at 8am failure to which they will be sacked by respective county governments and Ministry of health.
Addressing the nation at state house today, the president further directed the national police service to take action against those who have been inciting nurses to engage in illegal strikes.
These include union officials who have been defying the court’s directive.
‘‘I direct that all striking nurses resume duty on Friday 15th Friday at 8am, I further direct national police service to take action against those blocking and harassing nurses from performing their duties,’’ Uhuru said
President Uhuru Kenyatta added that nobody is above the law adding that the move by Kenya National Union Officials not to obey the court order is intolerable.
‘‘The nurses are engaging in unlawful withdrawal of their labor agaisnt the determination of employment and labor relation court which suspended any industrial action pending conciliation meetings between the council of governors,ministry of health and nurses union.’’ He added.
He further noted that the strike is not only derailing the Big four agenda but also going against the will of Kenyans.
More than 16 counties are currently on an active strike together with the nurses from national government.
