Artists in the entire Ukambani region have something to smile about after a group of people decided to come up with an entertainment award geared at nurturing local talent.
The Eastern Talanta Awards will be the first awarding event that will happen in four counties, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui and Kajiado.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio, Chairperson Committee of the Eastern Talanta Awards Edward Wilttohns Ndari says that they are launching the event on 10th July 2021.
He also added that the event will be used to help artists to compete at the national level.
“We thought it was wise to come up with an award so that the artists that we work with can be given a platform to compete and probably bring out that positive competitive nature of artists and development in terms of growth and the projects they are doing,” said Ndari.
The chairperson also said that the event will be an annual event and it will not be a one-time thing. He also added that they will have the main event on 15th of August 2021.
“It’s an annual event and that is why the launch is done in a big way. It will happen every year and this year’s event will happen on August 15th. On Saturday we will launch the event with Ukambani Musicians like DK Kwenye Beat and we will use the opportunity to reveal the selected nominees from the 11,470 artists who submitted their applications,” added Ndari.
He also said that for a start they are starting with Musicians but as time goes by, they will upgrade to other available categories to nominate people.
“We hope by the time we are celebrating our 5th year we will be doing a national award and probably if everything goes well we might be doing East African but it is going to be determined by the partners we get. Even if we go international, we will still maintain the name Eastern Talanta awards,” he said.
