The 2017 Kenyan Premier League season is just a week away and teams are in their final touches before the kick off.
Gor Mahia, the former champions are finalizing their preparations with a number of friendlies ahead of the season that is expected to begin in February 11.
Gor Mahia are heading to Uganda for another friendly match against Onduparaka Fc on Saturday, this comes a few days after playing the Sudanese champions Al Hilal in which they lost 1-0.The friendlies serve as a build up before the KPL champions returning into action with the aim of retaining the title which the club lost to Tusker last season.
Gor Mahia head coach, Ze–Maria is optimistic and says they are entering the new season with a goal of winning a treble, “This season our target is to win the league, the top 8 championship and the Gotv shield as well”, he stated.
Amos Nondi and Haron Shakava are included in the Sport Pesa All stars team set to play Hull City later this month in the UK. Ze Maria says it is well for them but there are players to play their positions while they will be away.
On the other side, AFC Leopards are also in thorough preparations for the league and the other competitions locally.
Ingwe finished 13th last season despite a fine start into the league. They played a friendly match against Embu County Assembly in which they won 3-0 in January. They played another friendly on Thursday against Kibera Black Stars at Camp Toyoyo and they won 3-0 convincingly.
Stewart Hall, The Leopards head coach is convinced the squad is more than ready for league following proper training during the off season.
“We resumed training earlier than any other team and played more friendlies which have enabled us to rectify on our weak areas. Last season we performed poorly due to discipline and low fitness level, but this time round our target is to finish among the top 3 in the league”, he said.
