
Gor Mahia kicked off their Sportpesa Premier League campaign of 2017 edition with a convincing win of 3-1 against the newly promoted Kariobangi Sharks. The mouth- watering match was played at Thika Municipal Stadium on Sunday.
The former Kenya Premier League champions out shined Sharks with a fine display of title chasers. The 2015 champions took the game to their opponents by taking total control in the midfield and making deadly counter attacks on their opponents.
Harun Shakava rose high to give the green army an early lead on the 17th minute mark following a long ball that he headed past Robert Mboya. The former Mathare United shot stopper was totally beaten by the powerful header from the rare scoring defender.
New signing Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza and Jacques Tuyisenge later came on score sheet to make it three nil for Gor Mahia .The consolation goal for the Sharks came courtesy of Mathew Odongo in the dying minutes of the game.
In other matches played on Sunday, Posta Rangers beat new comers Zoo Kerichao by a solitary goal courtesy of Dennis Mukaisi at Afraha Stadium. And at Awendo Green Stadium, Chemelil Sugar overpowered hosts Sony Sugar 2-0 with second-half goals from Edwin Omondi and Victor Ademba.Earlier before at Thika Municipal Stadium,Mathare United won 3-2 against Thika United in an early kick off.
