Government emptying water from other dams in Solai

The government has discharged water from Tinderes Dam just a day after the collapse of the Melmet Dam in Solai that claimed 48 lives after its waters overflew two days ago.

Engineers drawn from the government and KDF discharged the waters from the dangerous dam today in Solai and say more waters in dams in the area will be discharged also.

There are about eight dams used for irrigation and fish farming, all owned by an Asian farmer who settled in Solai in the 1960s, just outside Nakuru town.

Nakuru water minister Festus Ng’eno says discharge will continue until the dam is dry after which it will be decommissioned and rebuilt in collaboration with the owners.
