Government resumes talks with striking healthcare workers
The government is set to resume talks with union leaders of striking nurses and Clinical Officers.
This is after a five hour meeting held yesterday by the two parties failed to reach a consensus.
This happened even as patients across the country continue to suffer for lack of services in various health facilities.
Patients seeking services in public hospitals were turned away as the nurses and clinical officers kept off their work stations.
“Asking us to understand and go back and continue working in an environment that is not safe is telling us to commit suicide, and we are telling them that we are not going to commit suicide in a country that does not want to appreciate its own health workers,” said George Gibore, secretary general for Kenya Union Clinical Officers.
“We are here because we want our health to be actually prioritized, we want the leaders to understand the issues affecting healthcare workers,” he stated.
