The Kenyan Government has withdrawn security details of Azimio principals; Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and more than 50 Azimio MPs.
This decision comes just days before planned anti-government protests set to begin on Wednesday this week.
Raila Odinga, had voiced concerns over allegations that the government was plotting harm against him and other Azimio leaders during the upcoming demonstrations slated on Wednesday to Friday.
Notably, more than 10 police officers assigned to protect Raila Odinga during his daily activities have been removed, along with the security personnel guarding his residences in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Siaya.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and the Azimio MPs have also had their security withdrawn by the state.
Nyanza Governors targeted.
A number of Nyanza Governors have also seen their security withdrawn among them Homabay governor Gladys Wanga.
The protests are intended to address concerns about the high cost of living, pressing the government to take action.
During a press conference today, Minority leader in the National Assembly, Opiyo Wandayi, asserted that the opposition would not be intimidated by the government’s actions.
He called upon the government to respect the constitution, emphasizing the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.
