A guard working for a private security company in Nairobi was today charged with being in possession of police uniform.

Austine Musume Juma who pleaded guilty to the charges was arrested on the 8th of June in Landi Mawe, Nairobi County following a tip off by the members of public.

The prosecution stated that upon ransacking his bag, one beret, one blue jacket, one blue shirt with coloured badge and a trouser were recovered from his bag.

“You are charged with having in possession a police uniform which is a property of government. The above apparels are believed to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained, “the charged sheet read in part.

The property is believed to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

The charge that Juma admitted

In his plea for leniency Juma stated that someone unknown to him approached him in his working station and handed him a bag and told him that another person would come and pick the bag.

Juma told the chief magistrate that after the person left, he became curious of the content and opened the bag to establish the content. He then learnt that the bag he was handed had police uniform stuffed in it.

He further informed the court, that he became so excited and put on the uniform and requested one of his colleagues to take his photos wearing police uniform.

The accused also stated  that he was remorseful  for his action, and pleaded  with court to unconditionally  pardon  him adding that his six month expectant  wife present in court solely  depends  on him  as breadwinner.

“I plead with this court  to kindly  pardon  me ,I am the only person  working, my  wife is heavily  pregnant  i cannot imagine  how the life would  be if am jailed,” Juma pleaded with court.

The trial magistrate  Lucas  Onyina  ordered, the  police  uniform  be held in the custody  of the investigating  officer and the probation  officer (s)  supply  the court with probation assessment report.

” I direct  the investigating officer to keep the exhibits  and the probation  officers  to  supply  the court with probation  assessment report ,the matter be mentioned on  16th June 2023,” Magistrate Lucas Onyina directed.
