The Starlets wasted no time asserting their dominance. Just two minutes into the game, Martha Amunyolet connected with a precise pass from goalkeeper Annedy Kundu, unleashing a volley that found the back of Burundi’s net, past goalkeeper Faida Habimana.

Amunyolet quickly doubled her tally, converting a pinpoint cross from captain Vivian Nasaka. Her rapid-fire brace gave Kenya a comfortable early lead.

Burundi, despite their earlier victory against Uganda, struggled to find their rhythm against the formidable Kenyan side. The Starlets maintained control, with Emily Moranga and Tumaini Waliaula consistently creating scoring opportunities.

Only Habimana’s sharp saves prevented Kenya from extending their lead further before halftime. Kenya’s defense, anchored by Elizabeth Ochaka and Alice Mideri, effectively stifled Burundi’s attacking efforts.

Mboya’s Late Strike Seals Comprehensive Win

Following the break, Burundi showed signs of resurgence, controlling possession for the initial 15 minutes of the second half. However, Kenya’s resolute backline held firm, neutralizing any threats.

As the match progressed, the Starlets regained control. In the dying moments, substitute Faith Mboya delivered a powerful shot from outside the box, securing a 3-0 lead. This late goal fittingly capped a match that Kenya dominated from start to finish.

Coach Beldine Odemba expressed her satisfaction after the match, stating, “The girls stuck to the plan and showed real hunger. Martha was brilliant, but everyone played their part. We’re ready for what’s next.”

Boosting Kenya’s Title Aspirations

This decisive win is a significant step for the Harambee Starlets in the CECAFA Championship, a prestigious tournament showcasing the best women’s football teams from East and Central Africa.

Kenya previously came close to clinching the title in 2019, finishing as runners-up, and is now determined to lift the trophy.

The convincing victory over Burundi sends a clear message to their rivals, especially Uganda, whom they are set to face in what promises to be a highly anticipated clash.

The growth of women’s football in Kenya continues to accelerate, thanks to increased support and robust development programs.

With standout players like Amunyolet showcasing their talent and the team displaying strong confidence, the Starlets are establishing themselves as a formidable force, not only within the region but across the African continent.
