Kenyan International Michael Olunga scored four goals to help his team AL Duhail to clinch the Qatar Stars League in the final day of the 2022-20223 season.

AL Duhail beat Al Shamal in their final match of the season at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium on Monday.

Much needed victory

The Doha club needed the victory to secure a treble after earlier triumphs in the Qatar Cup and League Cup and had all but got the job done after the first 35 minutes.

Qatar striker Almoez Ali gave his team the lead in the seventh minute before Olunga completed a hat-trick in the space of 14 minutes.

For the second successive season Olunga has won the Golden Boot award being the top scorer with 22 goals. Last season he scored 24.

Al-Duhail topped the 12-team league with 51 points from 22 matches, two points above their closest title challenger Al-Arabi, who outpalyed Al-Sadd 2-1 in the other crucial match held Mon “Argentines are lucky in Qatar, where we won the World Cup and local championships, and I feel very happy to be in Qatar,” said Al Duhail coach and former Argentina striker Hernan Crespo.

It is the first time that Harambee Stars Captain has won the Qatar Stars League title with Al-Duhail since moving in 2021.

Olunga started his career at Gor Mahia in 2015 where the lethal forward made a name for himself after scoring 19 goals in 28 matches for the record Kenyan champions.
