  • The arrest of Pastor Ezekiel has left several VIP allies in an awkward position

Kimilili Member of Parliament, Didmus Barasa, has come out in defense of Pastor Ezekiel Odero of the New Life Prayer Centre and Church.

Pastor Ezekiel was arrested over reports of mass killings of his followers at his church, and police believe that he conspired with controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie, who has also been arrested over mass killings of his followers.

Didmus says Pastor Ezekiel is innocent

In a tweet, Barasa has condemned Ezekiel’s arrest, alleging that he is not a cult leader like Pastor Mackenzie.

“I don’t think it was warranted for police to arrest Pastor Ezekiel Odero. One criminal who was running a cult and another one referring to himself as Yesu wa Tongaren cannot be the cause and or result to blanket condemnation of the church,”he tweeted.

He called the blanket condemnation of the church a warning that God would punish Kenyans for this.

The police believe that Pastor Ezekiel had the bodies of some of his congregants who died in his church secretly buried at Shakahola forest near the coastal town of Malindi.

“God will punish us heavily for this…… I strongly oppose this act….,”

High profile personalities link with Pastor Ezekiel

The arrest of Pastor Ezekiel raises questions as to whether some public figures who have once attended his crusades in the country knew the goings-on in his church.

Among them is the wife to the Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, Dorcas Gachagua.

In November last year, at a crusade in Kasarani Stadium, Dorcas graced the event.

But yesterday she urged Kenyans not to use sins committed by one person to condemn the entire church

“You cannot condemn all Christians because of one criminal. A criminal is a criminal alone, a terrorist is a terrorist alone and a murderer is a murderer. There is nothing like collective justice. We must not keep quiet as the blanket condemnation of Christians and the labeling of Christians as criminals goes on,”she said.

The police have been carrying out a six-day operation, and yesterday, they exhumed five more bodies from the Shakahola forest, bringing the total number of bodies exhumed to 103.
