Nairobi MCAs have come out to defend  governor Johnson Sakaja over senate claim that he had unwarrantedly  skipping summons.

Led by Minority Whip in Nairobi Assembly Mark Mugambi Ronaldo, they avers that the  move by Senate to order for governor’s  arrest with a further fine was not done in   good faith.

In a statement UDA MCAs  defended  Sakaja’s  Senate attendance record saying it’s above board.

‘‘We have seen a political onslaught hoodwinked as oversight on Nairobi County. The Governor and his executive have been faithfully attending to both senate and county assemblies. In fact this financial year alone, the Governor has been to the senate more than 11 times and we are sure he will go there to respond.’’ Mugambi said.

“Many people are not happy at the progress being made. This is why all the noise came after the state of the nation address where the Governor eloquently outlined progress over the last 19 months. A lot of the challenges are inherited. Just like the audits in questions, but the Governor is up to task to take them on. Challenges and achievements walk hand in hand.” They added.

They have called on senate to desist from painting Nairobi County Government in a bad  light by frustrating the governor saying the current audit were not theft committed but an inquiry.

“Certain quarters aren’t happy with progress being made in the city as the Governor resolves years of mismanagement. There is progress in many areas and we would not want that derailed. Premature political hopefuls will not derail the progress being made in Nairobi. The Senate is not just about Nairobi. And the auditor general issued audits on 47 counties. Very many Governors have never appeared at all while Sakaja has been there more than 10 times this financial year.’’  he said.

Sakaja Reaction

Sakaja took to his social media to show his disappointment with the  senate move and that his attendance to the Upper House has been above board.

“I have appeared severally and will continue to do so. I have no reason not to respond to any questions raised on Mradi or FY 20-22 audits. Many appearances by other invitees have been rescheduled due to travel, infirmity or prior booked official engagements.” Sakaja stated.
