How Buju Banton’s incarceration tainted his relationship with his wife and son

At the time when Mark Anthony Myrie popularly known as Buju Banton was sentenced to ten years in prison, he had everything going on well for him.

The singer had just bagged a grammy award for the best album for his album ‘Before the dawn’ which was released on September 28th 2010.

However his incarceration brought a taint in his then budding relationship with his wife Nina Atalah and son music producer Markus Myrie.

It is not clear when Buju and Nina tied the knot but word is that the two were a very inseparable item until when Buju was sentenced to ten years in prison.

While Buju was serving his sentence at the McRae Correctional Facility in Georgia, USA, his alleged wife Nina decided she was not going to wait for him to come back home and decided to move on with Ghanaian football star Asamoa Gyan.

The lady was even blamed for the football star’s separation from his wife Gifty after she was spotted in the company of the footballer on several occasions.

On the other Hand Markus Myrie also seemed to have held a huge grudge on his dad following his incarceration.

When he was released late last year, Buju and his son Markus had an argument that spilled over on social media.

Following the altercation, Markus posted some disrespectful sentiments on his Insta stories directing his anger towards his dad, Buju.

Sometime in March 2019, Markus Myrie made a report to the Constant Spring police following an alleged altercation with his father.

The alleged incident is said to have taken  place at Buju Banton’s Carlyle Avenue recording studio in St Andrew.

A week later Markus wrote another online post terming his dad as a ‘Bad Father’

In his statement he said he still loves his dad despite the constant bad blood they have both harbored.

“My only disappointment is the undelivered expectation of a father who refuses to see fatherhood as more than just a tittle and financial support. Your absence has nothing to do with prison and you know that. Still I forgive you regardless. I hope one day you decide to be a better father.Don’t do it for me. Do it for my siblings who are suffering emotionally.” he wrote

Markus then went on to reveal that the altercation was misreported then asked his fans to pray for the Myrie family.

“When you love people you tell them the truth regardless of repercussions. For example this ridiculous altercation. Many of you think you know the situation but remember you were not there and he is my father not yours. I ask you to keep the family in your prayers as will I. I love you @bujuofficial.” he added

Buju Banton will be ushering in the new year with a major concert set to go down at Mombasa sports  club on 31st December 2019.
