How Nairobi County Government Officials Inflated Dandora Stadium Cost By Sh. 100M
Procurement officials in Nairobi City County are now in trouble for inflating Dandora Stadium cost by sh. 100 million in what is seen as well choreographed scheme to defraud the county government.
In another leaked audio, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is heard questioning Mr. Leonard Biwott who was an acting director by then why they inflated the tender by sh. 100 million contrary to the original contract of sh. 250 million.
The revelation was first made when the procurement officers presented sh.350 million cost of the stadium to social services committee at the assembly raising an eye brow.
Committee chairman who is also Woodley/Kenyatta MCA Mwangi Njihia then took the same controversial documents to Sonko and drove his attention into the matter.
‘‘What the chairman said is the truth, this what these people of procurement do as we sit back as fools …they perpetrate the same on roads tenders, and thereafter audit queries arise……we are asked to give answers on what we don’t even know.’’ Sonko is heard lamenting in the leaked audio.
At some point Sonko called the then acting county secretary Pauline Kahiga to get her side over the matter.
Kahiga is also heard saying that she was not aware of the inflation.
The governor has however, ordered quick intervention of the investigators into the matter, saying the move was to implicate him in the scandal and also sabotage the Dandora Stadium Project.
Meanwhile plans to have the stadium complete are underway and is expected to be officially opened before the year ends.
