Human Rights Defender Cidi Otieno To Vie For Westlands MP Seat
Human Rights Activist Cidi Otieno has now declared his interest for Westlands Parliamentary Seat in the next General Elections.
Cidi who is currently the president of Civil Society Reference Group has poked his eyes on improving education system, youth and women empowerment, sports among other issues in Wetlands.
“Yes I will be on the ballot and it’s also true that I have stayed in Westlands for 30 years and I know what ails them…I want to first invest on infrastructure in our schools.. you find that Kangemi Primary sometimes enrolls 250 Candidates with less classrooms and teachers this must be improved.” Cidi said.
“To the youths of Wetlands usiitishe tu lock na hauna shughuli I will ensure we empower you through Mtaani projects such as trainings, car wash establishment among other programs,” he said.
He also have a dream of convening Annual Westlands Economic Forum where the residents will engage all corporate organizations.
“We have so many organizations in Westlands and to start with 85 per cent of embassies have offices in Westlands,we also have top companies like Safaricom we will engage them because they are within Westlands…I mean we have so many slums there.” He said.
Cidi is considering vying as an independent candidate.
‘‘I don’t want to use a political party am an activist and we believe that we should serve everyone equally without discrimination. If I say I will vie through ODM then it means I have locked out that person in UDA,Jubilee or ANC and we should shun such politics and embrace unity.’’ He added.
Cidi is facing stiff competition from UDA’s candidate Law Society of Kenya Chairman Nelson Havi.
