Hundreds Left Homeless After Fire Guts Down Their Houses

slum fireHundreds of people were left homeless after a mid-morning fire burnt down their homes in Mukuru slums in Nairobi yesterday.

Nobody was however injured in the fire that destroyed residential houses as well as a school. It also destroyed business premises, including shops and grocery stores.

Makadara police boss Nehemiah Langat said the fire might have been caused by an electric fault.

Most residnts were in church when the incident occurred making them unable to rescue their property.

The Nairobi fire service arrived minutes after the fire started, but watched helplessly from a distance as their engine trucks could not access the area due to narrow roads.
