Hundreds of Kenyans yesterday spent the night in the cold following demolitions that happened along the railway line in Ngong’ and Kibera.
The residents claim that Kenya Railways bulldozers descended on their houses early morning on Thursday without any prior notice.
“The bulldozers actually spent the night there, then they started the demolition at around 7 am,” said one of the affected victims.
Some of the people who spent the night in the cold are elderly women who have spent more than 15 years at the place.
“My grandmother is one of the affected elderly people. She lives there with seven grandchildren. There is also another elderly lady who is more than 100 years old who was also affected, people had to get blankets to cover her in order to keep her warm,: he stated.
The demolition exercise which has left hundreds homeless continued to today morning under the heavy supervision of police officers.
The victims are now appealing to the government to give them an alternative settlement place.
