Police officers have launched a search on a 17 year old boy who allegedly eloped with a class eight girl in Kibra slums in Nairobi.
The boy who schools at St. Paul’s Kagothe in Embu County and the girl who schools at Ushirika Primary School in Kibra are reported to have been missing for four days now.
Child Protection Officer Humphrey Lando says that the parents of the two reported them missing just a day before schools reopened on Monday.
“The boy is in form two and has gone into hiding with a class eight girl who schools here in Kibra,” says Lando.
“The boy’s mother had already done some shopping for the boy but the boy unfortunately disappeared before he could be taken to school,” he stated.
Lando has appealed to anyone on the whereabouts of the two to report to the nearest chief’s office.
Defilement and cases of early marriages are currently on the rise following the nine month closure of schools by the government due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But as schools reopened on Monday, some schools experienced low number of people who turned up.
Education CS George Magoha has urged parents to ensure that their children go to school and are not locked out of school due to issues of pregnancies and early marriages.
