“As a sex worker at times you meet a client who does not want to use condoms, but you need that money.

In the event you get pregnant, and you have to terminate the pregnancy.

Unfortunately, we go to quack doctors. I have aborted more than 27 times!

I had my first abortion when I was 14 years old. The baby was fully grown, I heard the baby cry!” Caroline narrated.

It should be performed only when the mother’s life or health is in danger.

Approximately 500,000 abortions are carried out in Kenya with the majority being unsafe.

This makes unsafe abortions the leading cause of preventable maternal morbidity and mortality in Kenya and perhaps the highest in Africa.
